Gwen & Susi
Here is a shot of Gwen with our good friend, Susi, who was our hostess while we were in Java.
-
Saying Goodbye
It was a bit difficult to say goodbye to our many friends from LTWR as we are unsure when we will see them again.
-
Mt Merapi from the south-west
As we drove around to the southwest side of Mt. Merapi we came into an area that was covered with ash from the previous days' eruptions and the sky became very hazy with the smoke and ash from the volcano.
-
Vic @ Mt Merapi lookout
There is a lookout that has been set up for visitors to Mt. Merapi as this volcano has been active for some time
-
Volcano theatre
There is a small theatre at the lookout that shows a film regarding the activity of Mt Merapi in the past. It was an interesting item to include in the visit.
-
Mt Merapi valley - south west view
Another shot of the valley which is badly affected by the volcanic activity these days
-
Mt Merapi - south west view w ash
While we were at the lookout the sky became ever more hazy as the volcano became a bit more active and the ash clouds were clearly evident across the valley
-
Vic & Freddy
Here's an action shot of two intrepid explorers! Freddy was our host while in Java and is our very close friend and co-worker. He was ordained the day before and that was the primary reason we visited Java at this time
-
Mt Merapi from the north east
As we drove around the mountain to the north and east, we were struck by the contrast. Same mountain, different world.
-
Mt Merapi north east side again
Another shot as we drove past
-
Mt Merapi
This shot almost hides the fact that this is one of the more active volcanos in the world right now
-
One last look
As we were approaching Solo airport we turned and had one last look at Mt Merapi - just in time to see a new and very distinct eruption taking place
